Each year, our selection process engages dozens of rural primary schools in the greater White River and Insikazi region of eastern Mpumalanga to find the ‘best and brightest’ talent from some of South Africa’s most economically disadvantaged communities. Our selection team includes seasoned educators, educational resource staff, psychologists, and community development practitioners. Over a 6-week period, over 125 candidates are identified based on academic achievements in Grade 7 and teacher and principal recommendations. Candidates participate in aptitude and psychometric testing to determine ability and positioning to succeed in the KLM program at Uplands College.
